I read in the WSJ that dividend paying stocks increase on average about 2% since the exclusion, the non-dividend paying stocks had increased something like 13% over the same time period. So much for the benefit spreading over to people who held the dividend paying stocks in their 401k's, because of the supposed increase in value that was supposed to follow. The true beneficiaries are the rich people that receive huge dividend income tax free. Doesn't include the suckers that supported the exclusion on this board I bet!

how does a dividend tax cut help the economy would you say?

The most positive way I can think of is to incent companies to put more money back into the pockets of shareholders (including management)....rather than into, mergers, acquisitions and other stuff like that....
