Was there a smarter, more multi-lateral way to deal with Saddam and WMDs...?

Smarter - depends on whether you think ethics is knowledge or not.

Multi-lateral – the requirement for this to work is the volition of all parties - such cooperation is the only thing that could have stopped this war and the only thing that could have stopped Saddam. Unfortunately such inclinations seemed to be lacking on all sides of the pond. Old Europe should have made Bush an offer he couldn’t refuse, but then again he wasn’t exactly asking for their advice. A more militarized containment would have been successful against Saddam imo, but no-one put this on the table - not the French, not the Germans and not this Admin who had already decided from the get go, on War.

as for Saddam and his WMD’s – where the heck are they ?

There are those who examine the evidence and form an opinion and there are those who form an opinion and then look for evidence to support it. I think the it is fairly clear which group had taken control of the country now. The amount of cronyism and waste of money, lives, and resources by this administration just sickens me to death. But the real price of this venture will be paid over the future decades. America did not have much of a credibility in the East, but in the future it will meet equal skeptics in the West. Funny how a lie about a sexual affair can bring about threat of impeachment, but lying to push the country into war and costing the nation billions of dollars is hardly worthy of investigation.
