Sure, but in that case the code was well- known, and only naivete could account for being at that rally, absent support of segregation. Who would go to a pro- life rally without knowing that it was against abortion? Supporting the traditional definition of marriage is not similarly a cover for gay bashing. The analogy is overextended.

By that argument, no one should be against globalization, because opposition to globalization fuels the anarchist fringe which has rioted in city after city. Nobody should be a vegetarian, because that could be seen as supporting those who smash up fast food restaurants. Nobody should support the whales or fish, because that could be seen as supporting the criminals who attack whaling vessels, cut nets, and otherwise vandalize property. Nobody should be against cutting down all the Redwoods, because that supports those who spike trees and commit other attacks on law abiding loggers. Nobody should be against animal research of any kind, because that encorages the driminals who break into university laboratories and damage and destroy property.

Surely, Karen, you can do better than that argument. Admit that you just went off the rails momentarily.
