andy grove is a hungarian jewish immigrant himself, why should we be surprised that he is pro-immigration? he also got a degree from berkeley in the 60's. if that aint a recipe for being pro-immigration i don't know what is.

I haven't been able to find that BW week yet, since I am not a subscriber. Its a double issue on tech I guess?

I heard Grove on NPR a while ago and THEN, he was complaining that companies that offshore are exporting the knowledge and talent that Silicon Valley has taken 30 years to produce for a very cheap price. Maybe his position is the workers should be here, then and not there.

Here comes these bills and they really are quite severe.

H.R. 2702 “L-1 Non Immigration Reform Act”
June 17, 2003: Rep Rosa DeLauro (CT-D 3rd) introduces H.R. 2702 “L-1 Non Immigration Reform Act”. The bill limits L-1s to 35,000 per year. Today, there is no limit. L-1s would also not be allowed to work on contract for “third parties”. There are a number of other protections for American workers including limitations on a company being able to lay off an American worker within plus-or-minus 6 months of an L-1 being hired.

H.R. 2688 “Repeal of Authorities Relating to H-1b Visas for Temporary Workers”
July 9, 2003: Rep Tom Tancredo (R-CO 6th) introduces H.R. 2688 “Repeal of Authorities Relating to H-1b Visas for Temporary Workers”. Ends the h1-B visa program.
