Japanese chemical weapons hurt 29 in China

BEIJING, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- China's official newspaper reports 29 people were sickened by a Japanese chemical weapon from World War II.

Director General of the Asia Department of Chinese Foreign Ministry Fu Ying Friday demanded Japan take responsibility for the accident, China Daily reported Saturday.

Fu said the deserted Japanese chemical weapons have seriously injured many Chinese civilians since the war.

She urged the Japanese government to "tackle the issue seriously and shoulder relevant responsibility and obligation for the Chinese losses," the newspaper said.

The latest incident happened on Aug. 4 in northeast China's Heilongjiang province.
