As an unemployed software engineer, I sympathize with BOTH the people replaced by H1-b's ( such as myself ) and the H1-B's themselves. I worked with quite a few H1-b's, and they were invariably paid less than me for the same work. The corporations use them like indentured servants, as they can kick them out with a plane ticket home and a week to find another job. This also impacts native engineers, as you find yourself working 70-80 hour weeks to keep up with the H1'bs, only to be laid off anyway! Who's going to keep buying these expensive houses?
