What's surprising, Brian, is that there are so many people out here who believe that this government hasn't gone far enough!

I remember hearing about a small-time energy company that refused to do business in CA because the lawmakers here are so capricious. But one company's fear is another's opportunity, so those who were willing to endure the poor business climate required an above average return for their trouble. Yes, the laws hurt some businesses (much to the delight of some groups), but the end result is that it comes out of our pockets, no one else's, and lines the pockets of some other businesses.

fortunately the paid leave only applies to larger employers---over 50 or 100 employees, if I remember correctly.

That was really a bad law.

The Federal Family Medical Leave Act provides for unpaid leave. There is a California statute, other than the
one providing for paid leave, that applies to even smaller
employees. It's similar, but not identical, to the FMLA.

Although the leave under the latter is not paid leave, it's
still expensive to comply.

Buffet's picture was on the cover of Barron's this week-end, with this caption -

Berkshire Hathaway's shares have been stagnant for several years. Not so the cash-rich conglomerate built by Mr. Buffett, which is poised to increase earnings and book value. A look at the Great One's potential successors, and the prospects for a $100,000 stock.

Dorsey followers - take note! Is this bullish or . . . . ?

the woes of CA that are forcing numerous businesses of all types from the state.

IMO something needs to change to make California more business friendly. I do think that many companies that do not need to be located in California have relocated or are considering relocating out of state. Potlatch is one company that relocated their office out of state (about 4 years ago?)....after years of having their headquarters in California.

Living in California is wonderful...but trying to run a business in California provides an opportunity to overcome numerous challenges!

I found the personal challenge of *golf* today.....only a couple of pars, and lots of "snowmen" on my score card! (I had too much practice hitting out of sand traps today!)
