Terror only works to destroy our society if it can undermine the vital institutions that safeguard our way of life. And that's why part of the democratic platform is to spend billions more on homeland defense, builind "Fortress Amerika"?? Why they constantly harp on airline security when it's apparent that the best defense is an armed crew, and passengers who say "Let's Roll", rather than being content to be used as flying bombs... You take the war to the terrorists GST.. You play in THEIR backyard, keep them on the run, dismantle their current, and potential hiding grounds when possible, and position yourself to target their support base (Wahhabist Clerics and certain militant Saudis). they seek to destroy our institutions. And what was the reaction they expected? That we would effectively withdraw our troops from the Mid-East and be damaged so substantially in our economy that we would just roll-over and die? They all believed Allah was with them, that they could not fail.. That the US was weak and uncertain.. They certainly didn't believe we'd invade Afghanistan and rout them, or that Pakistan would risk civil war in opposing them (thus far). And they didn't believe that Allah would "abandon them".. That wasn't what their militants clerics had told their followers... They certainly didn't believe they would be on the run, hunted every moment, having to move every couple of days, lay very low, and have little social life.. Hell, they even have to worry about American women, such as "Mrs. Galt", operating their own internet "honey traps", and sending their photos to various intelligence and police agencies. washtimes.com So yeah.. our institutions are what they are physically targeting.. That's a no-brainer.. But they are REALLY targeting them more for the media impact, rather than the economic or military impact... After all, they should have rammed into Wall St and the NYSE, and not the WTC?? But you would have us apparently do nothing to offend the terrorists, or those who think like them. Don't threaten lest we face increasing terrorism.. Placate them, succumb to their demands... And when we do target them, do it in a limited manner that permits those regimes which harbor them to escape repercussions.. And don't meddle in the socio-economic culture and system which created the militantcy in the first place...
