I think we're from the same area (Silicon Valley). And we both know how it is right now - B.A.D.

However, it is not as horrible now as it was 6-9 months ago. It was *really* bad then; I knew a good number of people who were out of work for 6, 9, 12 months. Highly skilled people who work really hard. Good news is that there is some pickup, although it cannot be classified as 'growth'.

But, overall, a very grim outlook. If SV goes like this for a couple of more years, we'll lose ten years of technological lead on other countries.

As far as Bush, there is a lot of anger, but still a lot of apathy. We'll see if that dissipates before the election.

Btw: got to agree with your guffaws on the prospects of Bush winning California. There's about as much chance of that as there is of the 2.6+ million lost jobs coming back before election day...
