Other scenarios:

1. The Reps split because the social conservatives can't stand Arnold. Whether he wins or loses, the Reps can't get organized for a run against Boxer. Incidentally, if the economy doesn't pick up, Boxer will be very hard to beat.

2. Whoever is the governor in November--Davis, Arnold, whatever, loses because the issue can't be addressed within the present structures. Only likely if Davis beats the recall or one of the established pols wins (which includes the Rep established pols). Arnold is most likely to get a free pass, at least through 04. Unless he simply fouls everything up.
