I understand that. I am in networking and there are 5
guys in my group who work out of Bangalore at 1/5 of my
salary and I am pretty sure its only a matter of time before my job goes there. My point was that it is better to recognise this macro trend and figure out how to take advantage of it. Like it or not this is happening and no amount of visa restrictions is going to stop it. It happened
with manufacturing in the 80's and now its happening with the services. As far as floating the rupee , the dollar has
to fall a long way for it to be competitive against the Asian currencies and if the dollar were to fall that much , you would see sky rocketing interest rates and inflation that would make the 70's look benign. I am looking outside IT and seeing how the low cost of IT services is benefiting the users of IT services like insurance companies or financial companies. If I want to set up a web site , I don't have to pay some hot shot java programmer in the valley 100 K when I can get the same job done in Bulgaria for 5 K. A lot of small businesses can get on the web a lot
cheaper now than a couple of years ago. As for the displaced
IT personnel they will have to figure out another way to
add value to the economy. That is the American free market
system that I have come to know and love. I wouldn't have it
any other way. This may sound harsh but it is this ability
of the US economy to allocate resources via the free market that makes it so resilient .
