Nah Arnold can't lose no matter what position he takes on this issue and I'm sure he knows it. First we have Gray Davis, the recall is a sure thing. On the dem side his largest competitor is Cruz Bustamante, Davis's lieutenant gov. Has has collected only 10K in campaign contributions (although he has the latino voters)- still not much is happening for Cruz here. The other conservatives besides Arnie are from the far right side of the party which never wins in CA (pro life, anti gay, pro gun)- in fact the candidates the republicans are backing (Simon) already LOST against Davis a few mos ago when Davis was already the most unpopular political figure since Nixon. Homophobia just doesn't play well in a state where the second largest city is SF. You'd think that would be obvious?

....I always thought property taxes went to local government....

They did till the last recession and the state grabbed them for it's short comings.
