<<Our military is a tool. It's not a universal tool. It's a specialized tool. It does some things, the things it was
designed for, very very well. >>>
The Press is too involved with the emotional stuff, casualties, bombs , etc. That, or condemnation of the Administration , sells to the public.
Between the soldier on the street and the Presidents office there is plenty we dont hear about- a lot related to the new Cabinet.
. There our people would get ideas from the members , who know they have to be "reasonable" or they wont have a job.
From them the US can learn what may or may not work in that strange land to settle down the population and end the harassment. We dont hear what those ideas are so have no way to critique them
But some will work.
Control of the oil fields is not something the US will let slip away, into the hands of those who can use it for political power or for lining of pockets in the Saddam tradition. Without the oil income, Iraq stays poor for a long time and the Nation building goes phutttttttttttttttttttt.
The wells, pipes, and refineries are old and decrepit, need money and investment to make useable and stay productive.
Can we trust the Iraqis to spend the money properly and without graft and to do more than a just a repair job that could fail in year? The world economy would be affected if their oil output was erratic.
Specifically, what is wrong with American oversight while Iraqis do the job? And who can plan anything, get things up and running, better than the US until the new Oil Minister is appointed by the Cabinet.
