Rare Alliance Between Shiite, Sunni Could Bolster Resistance

Fascinating article. Surprising only in that this is coming so soon. The neo-cons have a remarkable record of forging harmony, out of centuries of discord. Now, if we cozy up to the Turks, maybe we can get the Kurds to join with Shiite-Sunni alliance. Let’s see that only leaves the secularist and the religious fundamentalist, but I’m sure we’re working on that reconciliation.

Isn’t it marvelous how we’ve been able to bring all of this harmony about in just three and a half months?

There are a lot of articles about Moqtada- he is certainly an interesting guy. Because he is so young, and because the demographics of Iraq might favor some one with his youth (and brashness), I think he is certainly a man to watch. Obviously reporters agree, and that is why they are covering him. I do wonder who they are NOT covering, though. I imagine the populist leaders in Iraq will grow pretty quickly in the environment the US has created. We've made a nice little petri dish for nationalistic Iraqi populists- I wonder how many we will grow?
