I do not disagree with much of both the information and opinions you express. I also agree with the conclusion; that Bush is heading in the wrong direction.

In only one of the situations do I believe he is not on the absolute wrong course, and that is the Israel/Palestine issue. That situation is a real mess, and there is no broker in the world that can fix it. The Israelis and Palestinians must fix it themselves.

Withholding aid from Israel may work, or it force them to lurch even further to the right. Bush seems to be withstanding, at least on the surface, the enormous pressure from the Religious Right, who have oddly seemed to adopt the Zionist cause with their usual unseeing fervor.

That said, I would be in favor of withholding at least some of the aid. However, if we pressure Israel too much, then the Palestinians will simply hold out and/or start attacking again, thinking that time is on their side. The original quagmire...
