Politically, supporting abortion is the right thing to do- -statewide in a general election.
Two-thirds of California voters either oppose changing abortion laws or support making abortions easier to obtain, according to a Field Poll released Tuesday.

The problem is those Republican primaries. You can't get to the general election as a Republican if you support abortion.
By contrast, about half of Republicans (47 percent) and conservatives (51 percent) want to change laws to make abortions harder to get.
THAT'S why the central valley (and parts of SoCal) count. That's where those people are. The ones that keep you from ever seeing a general election.

Women want abortion in this state
Some do. Some don't. Some women also oppose abortion.

Notice men and women are almost identical.
