OTOH - the Reagan-Bush era yielded eight years of Clinton

The Clinton era wasn't exactly a period of liberal progress - Democrats lost both houses of Congress, the Clinton health plan failed (even with a Democratic Congress), Clinton "moved to the right" and governed as a moderate. The swing to the right that began with Reagan seems still to be in progress.
