However, very informed people still choose violence when their goals are incompatible. It is not a cure all. Most of the world is not bound by the rules of law that govern Americans, nor do we have the authority to impose such governance to settle disputes. ”Bush's big failure after 9/11 was that he never answered the question he posed, ie why do these people hate us. The answer(s) as to why these people (terrorists) hate us is pretty well established. They have their reasons, the reasons are many and not necessarily the same for the diverse groups of terrorists, and in many cases an informed decision. We don’t necessarily have the ability to change their minds through education. You cannot always educate a lion at the slaughter of her prey. You can offer alternatives but you do not always have control over the lion’s choice. ”Without that answer there is only death as whomever we kill will be replaced because they harbor the same hate. It is not a forced choice. We do not just kill whoever has a gripe against us. We attempt every alternative to gain an understanding and to sway them toward an amicable solution, short of allowing them to commit intolerable acts. It is a dynamic situation not the static one you propose. We can hope for improvements in society as we go forward. Throughout history, barbaric brutality has given way to more humane conditions as they became available.
