To answer a few points

Want to end terrorism?”

That would be nice but I don’t think it is possible to absolutely end it, given the current resources available and the complexity of the problem. That is like asking if I want to end crime in America. Well of course that would be nice. .
Well Bush has us in a war against terrorism which as you say is a war that will never end. In other words a war we can't win. I'm not about to give up my freedoms as an American out of fear of terrorists. The patriot act is just the beginning. The taliban are reconstituting in Afghanistan and by any measure that country is terribly unstable. We can defeat the taliban and al queda but not a generic term like terrorism. So lets fight the wars we can win.

The answer is not in killing but in education of both them and us.”

I agree that increasing knowledge and understanding is a major component. However, very informed people still choose violence when their goals are incompatible. It is not a cure all. Most of the world is not bound by the rules of law that govern Americans, nor do we have the authority to impose such governance to settle disputes.

Well looking to afghanistan again who are funding more schools over there. The US or Iran and Saud. We aren't even trying to reeducate and the commitment needs to last at least a full generation.

The answer(s) as to why these people (terrorists) hate us is pretty well established. They have their reasons, the reasons are many and not necessarily the same for the diverse groups of terrorists, and in many cases an informed decision. We don’t necessarily have the ability to change their minds through education. You cannot always educate a lion at the slaughter of her prey. You can offer alternatives but you do not always have control over the lion’s choice.

No there has never been any real public discourse as to why those people hate us. Until that is answered we will be fighting shadows because that hate is the real enemy.
