Actually that is a counter-example. We depend on mideast oil. The Islamists or whatever you prefer to call them are making it more expensive for us to rely on mideast oil. The Arab states that shield us cannot afford to do so if their own populations go crazy in them -- and we are doing our part to make them crazy.
