I understand your isolationism, SC. I shared it to a large extent before 911. But we can no longer run and hide from the Terrorists. They will come after us no matter what we do. They hate us for being what we are.

Thanks for seeing my POV, Lindy.

But I am not so sure they hate us for who we are as much as for what we do.

If we had said, "Sorry for all the interference in your affairs over the years, we're going home now", back in, say, 2000, I very much doubt 911 would have occurred.

They may well hate us for who we are, but not enough to attack without provocation.

You need to read and reread and reread Michael Scott Doran's piece on Foreign Affairs, entitled "Somebody Else's Civil War," There is a link on the FADG startup page. Your assessment above is much, much too simple.
