People seem to have the impression that this situation is unique to this court house. It is not. For the past 10 years the ACLU has had a systematic program to remove the 10 commandments from thousands of court houses around the country. They have been there for decades and no one objected until recently. And you should know that they haven't been winning all these cases. Numerous displays have withstood the legal assault.

The ACLU has a mighty task in front of it. Displays of religious significance are nearly ubiquitous in state and local institutions.

I think it's the agenda of this man that concerns me. His actions are not the actions of someone I want sitting in a seat of power

I can agree with that. I certainly would never vote for him for a judicial office, and I'm glad I'm not an attorney practicing in his court.

BUT, we have to recognize that the people of Alabama DID elect him, knowing full well what his beliefs were -- he's never hidden them. He represents the outcome of democracy in action. So much as we disapprove of his views, don't we have to give some respect to the rights of the majority in a democracy as long as they aren't infringing on the rights of the minority?
