Doing nothing is the only thing that really aids recruitment. Doing nothing is the insult that we don't care and that is shame to the arab mindset.

It also says we are corrupt and weak. You tell them what you think is fair and you live by it and they respect you and there is no insult.

You are really hung up on the idea that there is only one extreme alternative to the current plan. Well, the best choices are already gone. Probably the best the current administration could hope for is to surrender to Saddam.

I know that sounds shocking, but the conquest has failed. The future appears to be asymetrical warfare until the U.S. is tired of it. Better to make a negotiated settlement now when there is someone to negotiate with than to spend a decade of daily casulties before negotiating with an even more bitter country.

In the settlement the U.S. could demand Saddam retire, or be exiled, that elections be held, that Chevron gets to open a gas station or any of the negotiations that the junior team should have carried on before their rash actions. After negotiations they should turn the implementation over to the blue-hats and get the heck out of Baghdad.
