He comes from the oil industry. He has close relationships with them. They gave a lot of funds to his campaigns both in TX and his presidential race. He looks out for their interests.

I wouldn't call that in their pockets. Nor would I think there is any thing wrong with it if he looks out for their interests as a matter of conviction. I do think that money and old friendship does get more influence with all politicians but it isn't something specific to Bush and it exagerates the effect to say he is in their pockets, or that he has been bribed by them.

But even then, that relationship developed while he was in the WH and not before, and in my mind, doesn't fit the definition.

That might make it worse. If the relationship existed before hand it would seem to be a sign of similar opinions, the president could be doing what he thinks is best for the country and have it also be what is best for some industry.
If the relationship started after he became president then the same thing is still possible but it seems slightly less likely, esp. if the president has changed his opinions on issues affecting that group or industry.

He comes from the oil industry.

If Bush had worked at a McDonalds, you know and everyone on this thread knows, you would be accusing him of cozying up to the hamburger business.

There is no evidence Bush has done ANYTHING to benefit the oil industry since he took office. Anything. Thus, according to your view, we should never have a president who has held a substantial job.

Personally, I would think business experience ought to be a prerequisite to the presidency. The last president we elected who had no business experience ended up running the most corrupt administration in history so that he could line his pockets on leaving office.

I much prefer someone who has no financial reliance on ANY industry. I think it is obvious we won't have the pardons of criminals up for sale to highest bidder whenever Bush does leave office.
