Well, I do a lot of on-line research, which can involve downloading largish files, and the speed difference is very noticable. I can download a file in ten seconds that used to take me five minutes.

Plus, you can use the same phone line for DSL and for your regular phone, and can be talkign at the same time you're on a computer. I had to have a separate computer line when I was using dial-up because I was on line so much of the time. So while DSL costs more, the actual increase in my monthly phone bill picking up DSL and dropping my extra phone line, wasn't that much.
