I had to have a separate computer line when I was using dial-up because I was on line so much of the time.

I use internet call waiting and have only one phone line. I think I pay seven bucks a month for that service. Cheaper than a second line. FWIW.

My problem with DSL is not so much the montly cost, although an extra twenty-some bucks seems more than the additional speed is worth. My problem is with the added hardware to convert. I use a notebook computer which I move around several times an hour and I don't want a lot of gear hanging off it.
