No, the Persian Gulf was important. That's why I didn't want an incompetent President screwing the place up.

Please explain how it wasn't already screwed up and on the path to being even more screwed up?

<I wouldn't be surprised if the other Muslim producers pull another 1973 on us sometime in the next 5 years.>

Assuming Iraq returns to OPEC and we have minimal influence over the government, in 3 years the OPEC nations will be completely in control of incremental oil flow to the world. They will be able to dictate oil prices with little concern about non OPEC production.

Today's loss of Iraqi oil would not be an issue if the world was not facing severe production depletion issues and the losses from Nigeria, Indonesia and Venezuela.

The loss of oil that continues today from Venezuela is the primary reason our oil inventories are low and prices are high. The strike put us in a big hole.

The damage Iraq did to the oil industry has been longstanding and accumulative, not just these dips in production from our liberation. Think Iran / Iraq war, invasion of Kuwait and the decade of sanctions.

Horsefeathers: <"Of course, France, Russia, and so many other nations obviously don't agree with you, or else they wouldn't have been so intent on supporting Saddam's regime.">

These countries oppose US unilateralism. Park your arrogance elsewhere. Nobody supported Saddam. It is remarkable that our foreign policy was so wonderfully vile that we could not rally support against one of the most hated men on the planet -- you have to have a truly wretched policy to achieve that degree of US isolation.
