Kumar, I think the USA has as much legitimacy as the UN in its current form. USA soldiers won't be tied up to stakes by genocidal thugs bent on killing crowds. The USA showed up in Liberia and the thugs ran for it. When the UN shows up in Liberia, the thugs don't run, they steal the emergency supplies.

If it's a choice between the status quo and American Empire, I'll take American Empire. There's a better choice though, a NUN Empire of free association in a federal system with limited powers.
