Good post Orca. We seem willing to spend more than $200 Billion to combat a threat that never was and, in the process, create a new terrorist threat. Meanwhile, we ignore Homeland Security and investments in needed infrastructure.

We should have been investing in our economy, infrastructure, even homeland security. Instead we are conducting a billion dollar a day war. This war does not stop a container ship with a nuclear bomb on board from entering one of our harbors. It does not stop a determined foe from hijacking an airliner and crashing it into a building.

The conservatives want us to believe that they care about the little guy in Iraq when their party has never worried much about the little guy here in America. Traditionally, their MO has been to protect their wealth and promote the economic policy of laissez faire as much as possible.

The truth is they don't want gov't interference in their affairs and they try to restrict gov't wherever possible except when it comes to the military.......then the sky is the limit.

They don't care about public schools because they can afford to send their kids to private schools, and do. They don't care about our cities because they live mostly in gated communities in the suburbs. They don't care about our train service because they always travel by plane or SUV. They don't care about the environment because they own the companies that are damaging it. They don't want gun control because they need their guns to defend their millions. They hate Europe because they don't like anything that is different.

Isn't this what we are trying to defend against? How does this war in Iraq do that?

It doesn't! I hate to be cynical but its mostly about the oil. Iraq has the third largest oil reserves in the world. Many in Bush's cabinet worked for oil companies including Bush himself. They figure the Saudis control too much of the world's oil and we need an alternative source.

Of course, then there is the cabal of neocons who, as early as 1998, petitioned President Clinton to invade Iraq and other countries. Many of the cabal are now in the cabinet as well.

A very bad and dangerous group is in power and in control of this country.
