Ted,

No, because I am an American and I don't want my country defeated.

I am glad to hear that.

However I do agree with the part of his discussion that deals with the need for human self-determination.

Self-determination is great, and in Iraq, it is gaining. They went from:
1. Totalitarian dictatorship (very bad) to
2. Occupation by a benevolent occupying power (better) to
3. Self government (good) and maybe at some point to
4. Fully functional democracy (excellent)

Mr. De Genova is advocating actions that would leave Iraq in Totalitarian dictatorship - antithesis of self determination, so one would have to be very naive to believe that he really means that he wants self determination.

If you get hung up on his radicalism and ignore the truth underneath

There is no truth underneath. The man just hates America, and is just looking for vehicles to promote his hate of America. Warlords of Somalia stealing food from starving children? Fine. Butcher of Baghdad? Excellent.

The reason why I think he is on the right track is because the neocon thesis is wrong and will not work.

One does not imply the other. The neocon thesis may or may not work, but de Genova is still wrong.

The guy is an idiot in his presentation but his underlying thesis makes good sense. Ignore the wrapping paper.......its academic BS

You give him too much credit. Columbia University is turning out to be a cesspool of apologists and enablers of the worst that the world has to offer - radical islamic terror. And he is just one of many actors on the scene.

Joe

No, because I am an American and I don't want my country defeated. Besides, I am sickened by the deaths already in Iraq.

The Iraqis, even most of them that detest the US wouldn't want a million Mogadishus either. We lost 18 soldiers. There where hundreds maybe thousand of Somali deaths. All around an awful situation.

However I do agree with the part of his discussion that deals with the need for human self-determination.

The majority of Iraqis have more self determination now then they did under Saddam, and their chance of having real self determination in a few years is much greater then if the Baathist where still in command.
