It is worth noting that the radical right do not view the biggest deficit in history as a problem. On the contrary, it is a clearly defined element of their strategy to bankrupt the US government with massive tax cuts, and ballooning "off the books" war spending. Their goal is to force Congress to a point where programs that the right hate: Social Security, Medicare and the rest of the social umbrella we once provided the poor and sick in this country, are deleted permanently. Welfare is okay as long as it goes to the wealthy and powerful. Otherwise, it's a sin.
