I saw a story in the last few days that Iraq is pumping 1.75 million barrels a day right now. I believe this was about what they were doing before the US invasion.

But there are multiple dynamics in Iraq. Sure the Bushies believe they will score big by capturing Iraqi oil and passing the profits out to their buddies while soaking the US treasury to pay the unfortunate bills.

But they have always overlooked the pesky 25 million Iraqis who occupy the ground. Surely it would have been more convenient for the Neocon game plan to just kill them all, but then their gall does have limits, however modest.

They weren't ready for the amount of insurgency that has appeared. Let's face it, Iraq is like Disneyland ME for all the Islamic extremists, Baathist bad boys, Al Qaeda pro terrorists and who knows how many others who hate Americans all day every day. As our military likes to phrase it, it's "a target rich environment."

The Neocons are ideologues. They have little or no capacity to adapt and overcome in this type of fluid situation. Their little black book says "No UN," so they will fight UN involvement all the way. And as long as it's a straight up US show, the "target rich environment" is going to attract more and more insurgency. This will drive us out of Iraq sooner or later.

KT,

>True, the neocons are as incompetent as they are evil <

I disagree strongly. They are WAY more evil than they are incompetent. They were competent enough to convince more than 50% of America that we had to go into Iraq to begin with when broad US long term interests were actually very low on the list of reasons they wanted to go.
