mr mark, Norton rescue disk saved my bacon. <vbG> My WinXP computer got stuck in the boot process repeatedly this morning. Last night everything was OK [av scan, Symantec security scan, PCpitstop scans, etc]. I used the old Norton rescue disk made with Win98 a year ago and did a disk scan. Norton detected corruption of the boot sector and fixed it. After that, the pc booted fine.

I discovered that rescue disks cannot be made with Norton System Works for Windows XP. There are alternatives and I will explore them:
