good post, gottfried.

i regularly create rescue disks for win2000 (ms calls them Emergency Repair Disks) that include registry backups to help recover a damaged system.

i also regularly update a NAV rescue set of 10 floppies that include a boot disk, program disk, definition disks, and emergency utilities disk. these are in addition to the standard win98 boot disk i keep handy (and updated).

but i haven't found how to make one for winxp. odd, no?

the clickstream for ERD's for w2k is as follows:

start|programs|accessories|system tools|backup|emergency repair disk

let's share what we learn on how to create a winxp repair disk

btw, i'm both surprised and happy to learn that a win98 norton rescue disk could recover a winxp system. maybe we don't have to look any further.

I had something similar a few weeks ago. I shut down and stuck my AVG boot disk in and chose normal when I booted off the floppy and everything booted up fine. I have no idea what may have happened but it hasn't occurred again. I'll keep a boot disk around from now on.
