There is no doubt that HP is doing some interesting things in the lab. And Carly is not adverse to touting it to improve HP's current image on the street, where the perception is that it is finding it tough to slug it out against Dell. But at the end of the day, I have to wonder if HP is too much like Lucent, with some very interesting things in the lab, but too much revenue derived from mature products.
