Why is it that we are approaching them differently?

What lies within Saudi Arabia that is near and dear to every muslim on the planet?

Personally, I don't want to do battle with 1.5 Billion muslims by invading SA, do you?.

However, I will have little problem with assisting in the overthrow of that regime and reinstallation of the Hashemites, who controlled the holy sites for over 1,000 years.

Iraq is the "next best thing" to attacking Saudi Arabia. It accomplishes several things:

1.) Warns the Saudis what lies in store for them should they fail to rein in their militant clerics and family members.

2.) Removed one of the excuses the Saudis had for not being more proactive on the above (Saddam's existence).

3.) Draws some of these militant factions into Iraq and out of SA, making it easier for the Saudis to "do the right thing".

4.) Places a wedge between Iran and Syria, removing much of their direct line of communication through Iraq.

5.) Creates (hopefully) another viable democratic Arab/muslim state with significant oil resources to sustain itself.

6.) Eventually provides additional oil resources in case there is a disruption of Saudi supplies.

Personally, I would love to overthrow the Saudi and execute every one of their militant Wahhabist clerics. However, since several Saudi royals apparently involved in the 9/11 conspiracy have met mysterious demises, I'll be content to avoid a costly invasion that risks inciting the entire muslim world against us.

I would rather empower another Arab state to take on that task.
