I hope Larry Ellison doesn't let the door to the US hit him in the @ss on his way out! Great line. The poor orphan boy made good. Lots of software is being commoditized and sent to india anyway. I think there is no there there anymore. I like that line also, but haven't the slightest idea what it means.

I think there is no there there anymore [in India]. If you are referring to pbs.org then I disagree. Which brings us back to India and offshoring. So IBM and a number of other companies will send jobs to India. Profits will rise, but no head counts will drop. Head count will rise, in fact, because the heads are so much cheaper. Productivity for these offshoring companies will not rise. It will fall. It will fall simply because of the added overhead to support those longer information supply lines. And service to customers will not improve at all. I understand the wish to preserve these jobs in the USA, but Cringely's argument fails to convince me. The basic fact remains that India desperately needs the money and has the engineering talent. So as they develop their infrastructure such as their "telecom parks", they will get the job done more efficiently than anywhere else on earth. What do you expect when Indian kids who can't get in to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) are using Stanford and MIT as their safe schools?
