Maurice, Maurice, Maurice... How many times does it have to be stated AS A FACT that Saddam possessed ILLEGAL WMD programs as late as 1998, when he was supposed to despose/disclose everything in 1991 as a condition of the original cease fire agreement. When someone violates a cease-fire agreement, it's generally accepted that the state of war that previously existed has been reinitiated. I still believe the Saddam possessed WMDs as of 2001-2002. But I also believe he spirited them away, either to Syria, or to Lebanon's Bekass Valley (which is controlled by Syria). There were 6,000 warheads unaccounted for in 1998, BY ADMISSION OF THE UN INSPECTION TEAM. So to claim the US was on a search for "bigfoot" is ridiculous. Because we've seen "bigfoot". We know "bigfoot" existed. The UN has seen "bigfoot". This is NOT a mythical creature that we all imagined. What has been unsure is whether all of those weapons had been properly destroyed, or hidden. And without a credible inspection regime, and the incessant lack of cooperation by Saddam's government, there was just no credible way of knowing what he possessed and what he did not.We have NEVER been required to prove Iraq possessed WMDs. It's has been IRAQ's responsibility to convince the rest of the world they no longer possessed them. And Iraq's failure to convince the the UNSC, as evidenced in UNSC 1441, it can reasonably argured that the cease-fire agreement can be considered null and void, thus reinitiating previous hostilities aimed at obtaining compliance with UNSC binding resolutions.Instead, we are getting a great big USA empire, which is okay by me [I'll take the best thing going in the absence of a NUN] That will never happen. Americans don't have it within them to be imperialists.. Not in the form it previously existed over the past several hundred years, anyway. But if you define the US "empire" as implementing a political and and economic system that creates accountable governments, economic opportunity, and international standards legal standards, then I guess I have to plead "guilty as charged". Because I believe that only through such a systemic change in how the world "does business" can the hopes and aspirations be realized within their homelands, rather than being forced to search for it here in the US.
