I agree -- but you must realize that there is really not a great deal of variation in the plans offered -- as opposed to what could be -- suppose I could go in to an insurance office and pick the specific items I wanted to be insured against -- what level -- and a premium could be computed -- or suppose that I simply want to be insured against some given out of pocket -- up to a given limit. You cannot get close to either of these.

What would it be worth to spend to save my life -- at first blush I might come up with a large number -- but on further reflection I might consider the kinds of procedures, I would want done -- and some heroic ones that I would say -- maybe I'd be better off letting go -- then, to what level can I insure myself -- maybe it is not economic for me to really insure myself against every possible near-demise --

I'm rambling, but you see my point??

We've got a cadillac for everyone in the system and nothing for those outside -- that isn't, IMO, because of not enough regulation, but TOO MUCH. Everyone should be able to afford catastrophic coverage of some kind -- de facto -- they have it -- they can go to an emergency room if they are in bad enough shape and be treated -- but the cost is borne by those who have coverage.
