re....I complained that it only cost me about $80,000.....

Ok I found it. That's prop 8 that allows for reassessments from declining values. The court originally said if your reassessed lower that is your tax base. But you say that has been reversed. I can understand that.

For remodels or what have you, now there is a form sent to you from the assessors office to report the costs of improvements. They gleam your name form permits taken out in your host city. If you add square footage and don't fill out this form the assessor can come a knock'en. They may very well anyway sense their aware of the permits.

deeno, they tried to screw you by assessing your home 200% than they should have. those ain't nice folks, they are just trying to hammer folks that don't complain. very unethical, imho.

I checked and found they had listed more bathrooms than were actually in my house; also, when the assessor saw that my adjoining lot was fenced in as a yard for the house, and had nothing on it but trees, ivy, and a playhouse, the assessment on the lot was reduced by about 80% because it clearly was not a real estate speculation.

I had my property in CA reassessed in 1995. I responded to an ad I received in the mail from a woman who prepared my reassessment appeal. For $50, my tax basis was halved!
