I began with the premise that he had a moral revulsion against homosexuality due to religious belief. As far as I know, I never left the "freedom of conscience" issue, and therefore I am not defending discrimination broadly.........

This was what the whole civil rights movement in the South was about. Should owners of diners be left to decide whether or not they wanted to serve black patrons. Should motel owners be left to decide whether or no they wanted to serve black patrons. Should a bus company have the right to decide that it only wants white patrons in the front seats of its busses. This is precisely what all the civil rights movement was about. That companies do NOT have the right to decide who they will and will not serve based on the person's race or gender.
