Kerry is pro Israel, not as much as Lieberman, but pro Israel. Dean seems to be taking the Euro view, that both sides are equal. I thnk it's been proven you cannot equate the sides. Israel is much more honest and dependable than the Palestinians. The real issue here is that Dean seems to be changing his views back and forth. Why? He's waffled on a half dozen issues in the past two weeks and lid about the other candidates during the debate. What does that tell you?

Howard Dean proposed that the U.S. be neutral with respect to Israel/Palestine "..

That was both the smartest and dumbest thing Dean Has said so far.

The smartest :

People should be realizing by now that all attempts to bring peace to the ME, and specifically , the Israel - PAl. conflict, have failed and continue to fail, and will likely fail in the future under the current administration's policy of speaking softly to Sharon with no threat of using its big stick. Its big stick being money and military assistance, crucial to Sharon's current policy of either ignoring or even undermining any attempts at real peace negotiations.

The Pals have been calling for International Intervention for some time, but the current administration will have no part of this, as was confidently expressed to Sharon by Condi Rice ( BTW - Where is she these days :0 ) among other promises of blind support.

This desire by the Pals flies in the face of the argument that they do not want peace.I take this as another sign they are desperate for a neutral power broker to force Sharon into the peace process, but with Israel's military SuperPower position in the region, and their willingness to use that power, it may be too late for anyone, other than the US,to do anything about it.

Howard Dean's position was clear and exacting. He has the right idea at a time when it has become obvious to most that GWB is incapable of bring peace to the region.

The dumbest :

He should have waited at least a few more months before making this position public. The media are still willing to lap up anything that goes against the current flow, even though that flow threatens to swamp America in an endless battle of misjudged policy direction.

Joe Looserman is still noisy enough to get attention, and get attention he must, since he is quickly being relegated into the Wilderness here, and will do and say ANYTHING to maintain his core support, which is as close to the neocon agenda as possible, while still flying the Democrat’s flag.

It was a gutsy move by Dean, and he may overestimate the degree to which many, if not most,Americans are actually informed on the issues there.I'm surprised no one has labeled him Anti- Semitic yet actually.
