Why must it be the exception if there are perfectly fine workarounds? Because in this thought experiment there are perfectly fine workarounds- just as there are today, in the real world.

I am not disputing your notion of handicap, or whatever you called it. That's X, not me. I was only questioning your choosing to justify it with an argument about compensation at the species level. Seems to me that compensation at the individual level is the appropriate argument to use. The species thing is an unnecessary reach, IMO.
