Clark will have a shot, but has no organization or money. He also has no domestic policy experience. He may get a nice PR bump at first and excite idealistic voters (hurting Dean most probably by stealing his "outsider" pedestal). He may even challenge for the lead for awhile, but then he'll fall back and have to grind it out like the others.

One thing you see in these races is idealistic dreamers vs. the reality of the power of the machine. Upstarts always do well at first, but so far as I know, no outsider protest candidate has ever won. Am I wrong? I don't see Carter or Clinton as outsiders as they were both present governors with their own machines already set up. Clinton also lucked out because no major democrats were running against him. Tsongas, Harkin and Kerrey if I remember correctly. Clinton stood out in that crowd on sheer smarts and charisma.

In any other year, Clark would actually fare better in the GOP amongst their huge blocks of pro-military type voters, but of course that's not going to happen with Bushies controlling everything. Still, I think he'll run fairly strong and excite the party. Will steer the debate toward the center and probably end up as Vice President.
