There is every reason to "prefer" it (OR NOT) on the individual level. There is no good reason, however, to perpetuate a social discrimination. There is no good reason to hope for its extinction by fighting against it, or by arguing that it is recessive (when people do that). In the end it may be the most enduring sexual orientation. Humanity simply has no way of knowing.

The only possible reason for discrimination against homosexuals or their preferences on a societal basis would be a religious one. And that would of course be contrived by a particular religion and be wholly capricious. As well, western culture has recognized the separation of Church and State as a fundamental value for preserving civilized culture, so religious prejudices ought to be removed from social laws and regulations. There should be recognised a natural right of all people to freedom of thought and expression where they act privately and with discretion.

Homosexuals ought not to be constrained any more than any other minority group. They should overall enjoy the same human rights and freedoms and social acceptance as do all other minorities. Indeed, society is recognizing this slowly.

Social acceptance does not equate to social favour. It is simply the absence of overt censor and the neutral acceptance of people having equal rights, and the freedom to decide certain matters for themselves...and to honour the integrity of their own peculiar genetic disposition. Just as we permit left-handed people to partake equally in the human experience--in spite it is the exception, as it were.
