Is he implying that our right-wing intellectuals have answered this question? My impression is that they have only answered the question when the dictators in question control a lot of oil. What's yours?

I repeat, c2. I'm disappointed in Buruma. He makes some nice if certainly not unique points about Vidal. But then decides he has not said enough about something that is obviously on his mind so he criticizes "the left" because he thinks "it" did not approve of the way in which Bush invaded Iraq. And invokes a colonial mentality bit to ratchet up his criticism.

I repeat. I find that beneath the quality of his usual writing.
