well, I think our job loss is directly related to the deficit and imho it is mostly related to "offshoring" at this point, which is an accelerating trend. If Bush had an on the ball treasury or labor secretary, somebody with relevant contacts in industry like Laura Tyson used to have, then they could have anticipated the tidal wave.

I think the Bush people have gotten wind of another bad jobs report and they are trying to backpedal with China but too late.

I suspect a really terrible jobs number this time around, last month we lost about 100K jobs, probably more this time. I counted 12K jobs lost in just a few PRs last week (3com, intl paper etc).

The good news is, this really isn't a jobless recovery. Its a huge job growth recovery, in india. There are some industries that will benefit from the jobs created- chips I believe and networking in tech. I can't think of too much else. Software no longer has a market in the US, I fear.
