The GOP does not CONTROL the Senate. The Senate is very evenly split and GOP cannot ramrod anything through that body period. The Patriot Act absolutely could not pass without the approval of a lot of Dems in the Senate period. The DEMS did support but now its somehow not a bipartisan produced law. Thats BS. I think the fools in the Justice Department are going to wish they didn't stretch enforcement of the Patriot Act to try to ensnare non-terrorists in its net. The Justice Dept will quickly find itself without some useful tools that could be used against terrorists if they keep on stretching that law to the breaking point. I read the Justice Dept ran training on how to push it to the limits. This isn't something new in the enforcement world. Whenever the Justic Dept gets power they overextend it and frequently get the power revoked. Pretty sad really. The ATF used to do the same thing on firearms but had some of their abilities to ensnare the innocent taken away from them. Look at the overextensions of power at Ruby Ridge and Waco, neither on the Republicans watch and prior to the Patriot Act. Look at how Janet Reno had Elian Gonzalez taken away from relatives in Miami with thugs with machine guns and full military equipment and uniforms.
