try for a moment to fathom the depth of the despair required to blow oneself up in the first place

GST, do you think the Kamikazes in WWII were despairing?

Despair created of poverty and illiteracy is the norm for Palestinian youth, a good percentage of Egyptians also.......it is a cause......

Afterlife for and with Allah and several Virgins is known as the effect........

Cause and effect.....thank you Mr Arafat for 30 years of solid and responsible leadership.

Gst. You said...." Speaking only of the young people who kill themselves and at the same time murder innocent bystanders, try for a moment to fathom the depth of the despair required to blow oneself up in the first place."....

What a crock.....Those young people have been trained or brainwashed whatever you want to call it from birth to believe that their god allah requires them to give up their lives and murder as many innocent people as they can in return for which they will be rewarded in paradise. You and all of us have heard and seen young arab kids estatic at the thought of becoming a martyr. These poor kids have NO choice or very little choice they truly believe what they have been taught by their demented elders.

You said...." and their suicide is the final act of a life no longer worth living. "....

The arab leaders have only themselves to blame for the situation that the arab/palestinians find themselves in.

Did any arab countries expel their brother palestinians/arabs from their countries?

Those people have been taught over many years that Israel and the USA is to blame for all their troubles. It's what they believe and their leaders can never let them know the truth because once the truth is known those terrorists leaders are GONE.

All of the 9/11 attackers were generally from well-to-do families, and NOT products of despair.. In fact, Muhammed Atta came from a highly respectable family, and his father is a lawyer.

What you're seeing in Palestine and much of the middle east are yound militant fanatics who have been brainwashed into believing that their lives should be sacrificed.

I can think of any number of nations and people who have been occupied without sending their children out to blow themselves up while the adults cower in the shadows.

One more point. Up until the first intifada (and even afterward), most of the Palestinian residents in the territories possessed a higher standard of living than many other Arab countries...

<< fathom the depth of the despair required >> Think like a young man and replace the word despair with lust. Remember Allah has promised a bevy of virgins to the homicide bombers.
