***Online Safety: Protect Yourself From Fraudulent (Spoof) Email***
Date: 09/22/03 Time: 08:55:37 AM PDT

eBay is working hard to help keep your account safe from hacking and unauthorized intrusions.

Some Community members have received deceptive emails claiming to come from eBay, PayPal, or other popular websites. The people who send these emails, also known as "spoof" or "phishing" emails, hope that unsuspecting recipients will reply or click on a link contained in the email and then provide sensitive personal information (e.g., eBay passwords, social security numbers, or credit card numbers).

We strongly encourage you to be cautious when responding to any email request for sensitive personal information.

Remember, just because an email looks like it’s from eBay, doesn’t mean it really is. An eBay address in the "From" line of an email (From: support@ebay.com, From: billing@ebay.com, From: eBay Account Maintenance) does not guarantee that the email is from eBay.

You can also take a few simple steps to protect your account and prevent senders of deceptive emails from doing harm:

Be sure you are on an eBay page before signing in-- check the web address.
Always use a secure server when submitting credit card numbers over the Internet.
Do not send sensitive personal information via email.
Use the eBay site to update account information.
Forward suspicious email to spoof@ebay.com.
Detailed information about each of the above topics can be found at the Spoof Education Page.

Educate Yourself
eBay's Help system provides detailed information about spoof emails, identity theft, and what to do if your eBay account has been compromised. Learn more at eBay's Security Center.

Your vigilance helps us ensure that eBay remains a safe and vibrant online marketplace.

Regards,
eBay

I've been "online" for close to 20 years now. Hell I still have an old acoustic handset and equally old v.32 QAM somewhere in a closet. And I have never ggotten any of these scam e-mails. What's wrong with me? I have money to be scammed. I'm upwardly mobile. Sheeesh!!! It seems I'm to be consistently ignored by these guys.

Plus I've never even gotten a virus, sheeeet I've never even had an anti-virus software on any of my machines so I'm just asking for it.

You guys have all the fun..:)

Warning, a new bout of fake Microsoft updates is being sent out presently.

The fake address is "MS Corporation Security Bulletin" (using an email xxxx...@updates.com).

or another one: "Latest Net Critical Patch"....@confidence_msdn.com

in the body it reads:

"MS Partner

this is the latest version of security update, the "September 2003, Cumulative Patch" update which resolves all known security vulnerabilities affecting MS Internet Explorer, MS Outlook and MS Outlook Express. Install now to help maintain the security of your computer from these vulnerabilities. This update includes the functionality of all previously released patches."

or

"Microsoft User

this is the latest version of security update, the "September 2003, Cumulative Patch" update which fixes all known security vulnerabilities affecting MS Internet Explorer, MS Outlook and MS Outlook Express as well as three new vulnerabilities. Install now to maintain the security of your computer from these vulnerabilities, the most serious of which could allow an malicious user to run executable on your computer. This update includes the functionality of all previously released patches. "

and it contains a executable (anything like pack.exe or like Q____.exe file) containing the "New Worm" Virus.
